Building Applications

3. Ceiling Tiles

MDF can be used effectively for the construction of special effect ceilings in airports, large stores, public reception areas, offices and other prestigious buildings. The best results are obtained using MDF strips or panels with bevelled edges to create a tiled effect.

Boards with textured or embossed surfaces are available from several manufacturers. Deeper surface profiles can be achieved by router cutting the panels using a CNC machine.

The tiles can be varnished, painted or surfaced with wood veneer or foil. Pastel finishes produced by rag rolling, stippling or other hand application processes are particularly effective.

Whilst standard grade MDF will perform satisfactorily as ceiling tiles, flame retardant grades are available for applications in buildings subject to fire regulations.
